Valentin Grischenko

Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, honored Scientist and Technician of the Ukraine, the winner of a State Prize of the UkrSSR in the field of medicine (1977), USSR (1986), the winner of V.F. Snegiryov's Prize of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1981), the winner of a Prize of Kharkov medical society named after Vorobyov V.P. (1991), the Winner of the A.A.Bogomolets' Prize (1993), the Winner of a State Prize of the Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2002), Director of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
V.I. Grischenko was born in Kharkov in 1928.
In 1951 he graduated from Kharkov Medical Institute, in 1954 he defended the Candidate thesis, in 1964 did Doctor's thesis. In 1966 he received a professor's degree.
All his professional activity has been devoted to obstetrics and gynecology. He was one of the first scientists to apply cryosurgical methods and hypothermia within this speciality.
In 1983 he became the Director of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He was the initiator of the creation an IVF Service in Ukraine. Cryopreservation methods were patented in Great Britain, USA, Germany and other countries. Under his supervision the first in vitro baby was born in Ukraine. He founded and headed the Interdepartmental Scientific Center for Cryobiology and Cryomedicineof the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Ministry of Health Care of Ukraine at the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine, under which umbrella the Ukrainian Bank of Biological Objects functions, which supplies medical establishments with the transplantation material.
He is an outstanding scientist, the academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Ukraine, of the Academy of Sciences of Technological Cybernetics of Ukraine and New York Academy of Sciences, Honored Academician of the Ukrainian Stomatologic Academy, Honored Member of the "Family" Association of Reproductologists, Honored Member of the Indian Cryogenic Society, Polish Academy of Medical Sciences..
He is honored Scientist and Technician of the Ukraine, the winner of a State Prize of both the UkrSSR and USSR, the winner of the A.A.Bogomolets' Prize, the winner of a V.F. Snegiryov's Prize of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR.
He was awarded with the Badge of Honor, "For distinction" of the III degree, an jubilee medal of honor "For Valiant Labor", golden medal of the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences.
He is the author of more than 700 scientific, including 23 monographs, 48 patents. He is a member of the Editorial board of the journals "Obstetrics and Gynecology", "International Medical Journal", "Cryobiology" (USA). He is deputy-Editor-in-chief of the journal "Pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology" (Kiev), Editor-in-chief of the journal "Problems of Cryobiology", editor and the author of the Great medical encyclopedia..
